This week I have bought myself a copy of the Juxtapoz Magazine (Swoon et al., 2019) and had myself a little read while in the car back from York; of which I bought the magazine from. In this blog I am going to run through an article from this magazine and how I have found a liking to the new artist.
I am going to give a brief description of what the magazine os all about Juxapoz. Juxapoz is a magazine which holds together art and culture. The magazine covers all forms of art from street art, illustration, fine art and even animation (Website, 2019). They provide subscriptions and a website of which you can get the latest issue at your door. I came across Juxapoz in my animation and illustration course as our tutor provided us for research content in journals and magazines. I have only started reading Juxapoz for about a year or so. I find that the magazine has help with my creative ideas and have a sense of what trends are around for the month. I find that using Juxapoz is able to insprire creativity and have understanding of what the creative industry are wanting in future content. I as someone who is going to pursue a career in teaching, will be using Juxapoz as research content for students. I strongly believe along side other journals i have read that being subscribed or owning a copy of the Juxapoz magazine can help with guiding artist to the correct content when becoming a freelancer or working for a company.

The article I have came across is about an artist named Sofie Ramos (Ramos, 2018) and the article is called Drama in the Detail (Ramos, 2019). I was first drawn to this article when flicking through the magazine and came across the bright 60’s aesthetics. I love the funky art pieces that Ramos has to offer and I found myself interested in reading her story. In the article I found a sector of Ramos answering questions and I loved when she state “Cotton balls dipped with latex paint is my jam right now” (Ramos, 2019). This is a method that I have never heard of but it does make me want to try however I have an allergy to latex and I don’t know where to find the paint from. although down the years I would love to try and do this method and see what result can come out of it. From this quote it has made me think. Ramos has shown that your able to be creative out of things you would never think would go together. I have taken inspiration from Ramos’s quote to be more adventurous with techniques and methods, by using materials and art supplies to create content.

If I was to take somethings from this article is for one an artistic flare. I find from reading this article I have found a love for artistic flare and being creative with new materials and experimentation gets you somewhere. I want to improve on my experimental skills with materials and looking at Ramos’s work I can use her as a form of inspiration. I found that Ramos’s inspiration can with her and interior design incorporation with her personality. I believe I am able to achieve this with my personality and my interests with 80’s flare of which I stated about my interest in a blog called Get to know me!. I want to express myself future and have further skills of which I can use when I become a teacher. I also gained charisma from Sofie Ramos’s work as her work is quite delightful to look at. This make me want to indicate my work in the same way. I can use this with the next inspiration she’s show for me is colour. Using the two together can benefit an illustration. I already have some knowledge on these topics but I want to demonstrate these skills further and develop more experienced work. I can do this to help with demonstrating ideas for when I become a teacher. I could present an illustration of which can help with creative flare of which I mentioned earlier.
This is my review of the Juxapoz magazine and an article in the magazine. I hope this blog was useful and makes you want to go and buy a copy. Trust me its worth the money if you have a passion for art or wanting a career in the art industry.
until the next time
Rach 🙂
