Personal Reflection Style

The concept of being inspired as an artist is to know my style or what I like.

I’m just going to point out here that my fashion style and my music taste doesn’t show with in my art work. But shows with part for the colour palette. I describe my fashion style as very diverse from being 70’s to 80’s grunge a bit of 90’s grunge/ bohemian and lazy artists. My music style is 80’s hits to alternative grunge/punk. I like rock too which I’ve already spoke about in a previous blog called Get to know me! I’m only stating this as the style of work I produce is a bit all over the place but I guess so am I.

Here is an example of my work and how my style compares with my own personality. You wouldn’t think with the music I listen to or the YouTube videos I watch that my illustrations are based on animals. However my Pintrest says a lot more with that.  This is my character designs for my multi textual children’s book called Where’s Mr Fox?.

However if you look at Mr fox in space. space and foxes copy.jpg

You can see my personality more with in this illustration. I’m very proud of this work and I am able to show my personality within these piece of artwork. However I did focus on what children wanted in the multi textual children’s book as it is aimed for them. I did show my skills an d attributes to the illustrations and found that I am able to create environments other than characters. I like how I used my simple format of which I gained inspiration from a cartoon I liked as a child called Rolie Polie Olie. The cartoon was about a robot call Rolie Polie Olie. As sources described it being about “a plucky robotic lad who lives on a magical, mechanical world.” (Olie, 2019). I will place imagery of the cartoon here (Joyce, 2019).

I’ve used this cartoon not only because it was a favourite of mine as a child but I like the character design of Rolie. I wanted to use this as an inspiration for my work.

Ive been a fan of children’s books since I could remember and I still like them now even though I’m in my early 20’s. I find the illustrations have progressed since I was little and have more fun and smooth finish to the characters and their settings. A book I will always admire is Dr Suess’s The Cat In The Hat (Suess, 2019)

When I was a child I found this book to be overly fascinating as I loved the shape of the trees and the shape of the characters And I found an artist who I also got inspiration from for my trees and he’s called Patrick Hruby (Hruby, 2018).

You’ll see where my inspiration came from by the imagery you see here.

As you see here I took the inspiration from cat in the hat with my trees. I like how I focus on a child friendly piece and wanted to show this into my work along side the research with Children and children with specific learning difficulties and disabilities of which I stated in my Case studies and in a blog called Weekly Reflection: Managed my case studies.

As you can see here my work has manifestoed into what my personal project with my reflective style and how my childhood has helped with the creativity of my multi textual children’s book. I am going to mention very short briefs of which of the children animations and books came across while I was looking for inspiration.

BarBar (Ross, 2019)

BarBar is a children’s cartoon about a king elephant and his little family. I remember this show as a child myself and thought about the design when creating MR Fox character. I am including this into my reflective style as I see some inspiration for children books and characters.

Pablo The Little Red Fox (Giffard, 2019)

This is a children animation which is based on a little fox called Pablo. I looked into this tv show purely because I remembered waiting this as a child myself and its about foxes. I used this as content because my character design is a fox and to me made sense to look for fox character designs. So there for I used Pablo as inspiration and liked the idea for the colour choice as it was simple yet vibrant and figured it’ll be the best combination for a children’s book.

Maisy (Cousins, 2019)

image.png

This is a animation about a little mouse called Maisy and friends, they go on adventures and explore. I looked into this cartoon because I remember looking at books of this character in the library and figured that children must love this style. I found inspiration to continue with my book being about an animal because children see to like cute and fluffy things. I believe I am able to use this for extended realisation for my project.

Until the next time

Rach 🙂
