This is my final countdown. Its near the end. I have handed in my portfolio, portfolio book and my statement of intent that I made for semester 2 and my evaluations. Its coming up to that time where I don’t know what to write about now. I think I’ll start with my semester one feed back I found that I did really well with my experimental work but I need to express my work further. I couldn’t agree more. I am willing to take this on board and spread my experimental work further for the future. I have done this sort of for my work in semester two as I experimented with my story boards but I want extend my development and experimental work for when I go into my teaching. Speaking of teaching I have had work back from my PGCE interview with Newcastle college and I’ve been asked to extend my essay and hand it in on the 3rd of June. My tutor says this is a good sign it means they have potential and think I maybe allowed on the course. Fingers crossed. I hope I’ve got a place. I am on going with adding detail to my essay and making sure I reread everything I write before handing that in. I have moved into my home now. been living here for a week. Its cosy and filled with my partner and I’s personalities. I have to sya it looks like home. Work at the Artrium has a lot for me in the summer. I have more outreach projects coming up and i’ll be working with the children of ST Hilds again. I am extremely excited for that. I enjoyed it last summer as I found the talent of children and their imagination to be amazing. I have managed to do this blog. I have actually found a love for words. I’m no expert at writing and due to my dyslexia I will always find it hard. But I wouldn’t say this has stopped me. I have found to be more confident in myself and writing. I have gained extreme respect for those who can mock up a essay in days without fail. I have found myself to be more demanding in myself and the work I have produced.
I have found that giving myself a goal in not only a week but in life. That I am able to do anything my mind sets me to do. I don’t feel obligated to say I am only good and one thing. I now say lets give it a shot. During this year I have had so many ups and downs from academically and home life. I have challenged myself to the extreme and have found that I can do it. I am in the last deals of my driving lessons. I hope to finish by the summer. I have a good relationship with my Job at the Artrium where I have respect and honour for my members who I help every Wednesday. The experiences I have gained from this course is that I have a clear pathway towards my future. I have gained determination and have a mature mindset. I have allowed myself to gain communication skills of which I managed to get from doing my commercial and collaboration projects. I have wrote about this in a previous blog Evaluation: Life update into the future for me. I loved every minute of this course and found myself along side it. I am confident to pursue a career and to help others.
I am finishing my academic year. I am now planning my sensory board. I am currently finishing my line work on illustrator. That will be ready for the laser cutter. I have stated this in a blog which you can read here My Portfolio Journey but I will give a run through of what I am doing for the laser cutter. I am including my line work of my scenes like the woodland, houses and space scenes created in illustrator and all done in line work (this means i will be creating outlines of the trees for example with out any colour in-between them) Once I have created this file I will be measuring to 60×40 so that it fits the laser cutter. This is obviously too small for a sensory board so I will be doing 3 individual files one being woodland, the other being houses and the last one being space. Once I have done these the laser cutter will be able to cut out different type of materials an example being wood. The laser cutter will place my shape on that material and then I can build up a scenery board from that. This is created for the intentions for interactivity. This can help with educational purposes and beneficial for me in that career purpose. I have found some inspiration for this board from a website called weareteacher.com (Tornio, 2019). From this source I found that someone had created a “Kids at work” style board to teach them how to work basically. I found this to be fasicating and made me come up with ideas for different materials to use. I would recommend looking at this website and I will leave a link down below. I will provide an image of the sensory board here (Tornio, 2019).

As you see here this is the sensory board of which this person is has made. I personally think this is a really good way to help teaching children about the tools at work. Therefore I am taking this inspiration on the roll for my sensory board for children and children with specific learning difficulties and disabilities. I think that this is beneficial for children especially children who have disabilities and their educational needs. An example for my sensory board could be using wood type material for a woodland scene. To me this make sense for educational purposes as it can teach children and children with specific learning difficulties and disabilities on what surrounding feels like in real life. I am taking on board my case studies and research for my sensory board as I wish to proceed in creating a content for my direct audience.
I hope this blog was useful and Hope you enjoyed my journey of my BA Hons Illustration degree and my aspirations to become a teacher.
Until the next time
Rach 🙂
